Edmund Deberry Covington (1823-1845) of Richmond County, NC, the son of Benjamin Hamilton and Jane Wall Covington, entered the University in 1839, joined the Dialectic Society, and received his BA in 1844. He died of pneumonia on Christmas Day 1845 at the age of twenty-two.
